Capacity: 12 athletes

Coaches: Craftsbury Biathlon coaching staff and Green Racing Project athletes

Contact: biathlon@craftsbury.com

Purpose:

This camp provides a stepping stone for two different types of athletes: for kids who have been a part of our weekly practices will solidify the skills they’ve already been taught, learn a more robust shooting process, and be more prepared to enter competitions or attend our U-15 overnight camp next summer; for skiers who want to start doing biathlon this is a great way to safely jump right in and learn the basics in order to enter a novice race with more confidence or simply see if they would want to continue with biathlon.

Schedule:

9:00am-3:00pm each day

Requirements:

  • Shooting experience is welcome but not required at all. This camp is for both biathletes and skiers who have no biathlon experience!

  • Equipment: athletes should bring running shoes, swim trunks, a hydration vessel, a packed lunch each day, and a positive attitude.

  • Craftsbury will provide each athlete a biathlon rifle and ammunition for the camp.

  • Athletes should be able to handle full days of rigorous activity!

Camp provides:

  • Comprehensive firearm safety instruction and coaching.

  • Rifle and ammunition for use during the week.

  • Games and activities to supplement our biathlon training.

By the end of camp, each skier should

  • Understand and practice the rules of firearm safety.

  • Understand the fundamentals of prone shooting off of a block.

  • Understand the basic components of a biathlete’s shooting process.

  • Have a better understanding of whether they want to continue with biathlon and how to keep improving if so.
