Training week of 2/3
EVERYONE:
Attendance form keep it up, y’all.
It’s the guts of racing season for the junior team. For many of you, that’s not super relevant, but it does mean that junior coaches (in particular Anna, Audrey, and Jake) may not get back to you on emails right away, so please be sure to get messages to the relevant coach groups (i.e., bkl@craftsbury.com, jrskiing@craftsbury.com
JUNIORS:
Holy wow great racing in Waterville this weekend.
Qualifier races for the Vermont U16 and Eastern High School Championship teams: are Sunday, 2/9, at Rikert. Pretty much all of you juniors should do this race! Talk to us with questions. Registration is here. Sign up NOW if you’re planning to do it! We’re not currently planning to take a team van for athletes to ride in, as coaches will need to get down there silly early. Please carpool. We will be there to provide waxing and support for everyone who is part of the junior program (part of the program fee for everyone). BUT note! Ideally we want your skis midweek this week—Wednesday or Thursday. You could wax them in the clubhouse (with your own PS6 wax please) after the high school race Wednesday, or get them to us sometime soon after. Then we’ll get them down to Rikert with us. If you can’t get them to us early, fine, we’ll take them when we can get them—it just means less time for us to wave our magic wands over them.
RIkert Eastern Cup: is the next and final one! We’ll try to get details pulled together and out to y’all soon.
Invoicing: if you’ve gone on trips with us or had us wax your skis and are not registered as the full-time junior option, PLEASE check your spam, etc., for invoices from Concrete Foundation. Chasing down payment from y’all sucks up time that would be better spent actually coaching.
Training logs: if you keep one, update it sometime maybe please?
U14s:
Bill’s Blastoff BKL race on Saturday, Feb. 8th, at the COC! We hope most of you can do this one. More details and registration here. There’s a volunteer signup linked there too, in the Event Notes. One important volunteer job is bringing cookies for the cookie table (see second tab at the bottom).
March 1-2 (Sat-Sun): BKL Fest at Quarry Rd. in Waterville, ME (families figure out lodging - lot more info to come on this one later in the season)
Qualifier race at Rikert: oftentimes we encourage U14s to try out the qualifier. You can’t qualify for anything, but it can be a fun experience… but this year we have over 40 juniors and simply don’t have the capacity to offer support for our U14s at that event.

BIATHLETES:
Bayley-Hazen Biathlon Race, at Craftsbury February 23rd. Novice category is already FULL. Experienced category (suitable for our Jr/U14 biathletes) still has a few spots.
BKL: We have started doing the in-person part of the Basic Rifle Safety course. If you haven’t done the online part yet, you are behind. Catch up here.
JRs/U14s:
Wednesday: another HS race = another 4:30pm biathlon practice time
Focus the next few lessons: breathing and cadence. Check out this video of French athlete Lou Jeanmonnot as an example of good breathwork. (Sound on.)
Always: Bring hat, dry gloves, and change after ski practice.
