Marathon '22: Canceled
23 February 2022 - We are sorry to announce that weather and snow conditions have forced us to cancel the 2022 Marathon Ski Festival outright.
We had been hopeful that we could hold onto a course for a Saturday freestyle event, but last night’s rain hit us hard. Ruthie’s is a mess of dirt patches, grey ice, and standing water. (Don’t believe us? See for yourself.)
Because we appreciate your patience and flexibility during this trying winter, we’re going to issue refunds of everyone’s race fees (less the service charges levied by SkiReg). SkiReg will be handling the refunds through their accounting department and we’ve been told it will take a few days to process, so bear with us.
This decision is deeply disappointing, but not one we make lightly. Even if we cover the dirt patches, we are not sure that the course would be safe to race with all the grey ice and thin spots. While we realize there is snow in the forecast for Friday, we do not feel comfortable banking on a storm to bail us out at the last minute.
We know that the New England (and farther afield) racing community is strong enough to weather this particularly challenging winter. We will see you back with renewed vigor in 2023!
