The Craftsbury Outdoor Center would like to welcome this summer’s Small Boat Training Center’s athletes. Here’s a brief overview of the newest faces on campus:

Taylor Beach rows for the University of Southern California and is entering his senior year. At this year’s ACRA Championship in Gainesville, Georgia, Taylor’s lightweight four placed fourth. He is originally from Camarillo, California.

Ned Benning will be a senior at Cornell University next fall, majoring in Natural Resources Management and Policy. He spent his spring in Cornell’s first varsity eight, placing 4th in the Petite Finals at both Eastern Sprints and the IRA Regatta. He was on the 2011 Junior National Team and won bronze with the 2013 U23 National Team in the coxless 4. His hometown is Weston, Massachusetts.

Ben Davison just finished his freshman year at the University of Washington. He was in their freshman eight that won the IRA Regatta. Ben was on the 2014 and 2013 Junior National Team and 2014 U23 Team. Originally born in England he’s from Iverness, Florida.

Shiann Gardner will be a sophomore at Michigan State in the fall. She began her first racing season as a Spartan in the team’s varsity four. She’s from Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Michalina Fili came to Craftsbury after graduating from Washington College in Maryland with a degree in biology and pre-dental studies. She was a 2013 and 2014 ECAC NIRC All-Star and three-time first-team All-American. Her varsity eight placed 7th among Division III eights at this years NCAA Championships. Her hometown is Sparks, Maryland.

Madeleine Pont is entering her sophomore year at the University of California Los Angeles. She picked up the sport of rowing at UCLA last Fall and finished her spring in the team’s Varsity Four. Madeleine swam in high school, specializing in the 100 and 200 freestyle. She calls Menlo Park, California home.

Elizabeth Vogt graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in biology. This spring she was in the Huskie’s varsity eight, which placed 6th at NCAA Championships. Elizabeth is from Trout Lake, Washington.

Beatrix Tobey completed her freshman year at the University of Wisconsin, where she rowed for the women’s lightweight team. Bea’s four earned silver at this year’s IRA Regatta. Beatrix’s hometown is New Canaan, Connecticut.

Kristina Wagner graduated from Yale University this spring with a degree in American Studies. She was in Yale’s four this season, which won silver at the NCAA Championships. Kristina was on the 2013 U23 National Team. She is from Weston, Massachusetts.

The SBTC will be in action at the U23 World Championship Trials starting Sunday, June 21, for an opportunity to race at the U23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. They are being coached by Troy Howell and Burt Apfelbaum.
